San Antonio home of first MEXTOUR-W: 7,163 in attendance in Toyota Field.

San Antonio once again proves that it is ready for a bigger soccer scene and venue in the Alamo City. On Tuesday, Australia and Mexico womens soccer teams faced off. Both having off historic run run in major FIFA Tournaments. In San Antonio The Matilda’s and Mexico Femenil played to a 2-0 Final to Australia.

The Matildas reached the FIFA Womens World Cup 2022 in New Zealand and ended up fourth after losing to Sweden for third place. The Champions of that tournament was Spain defeating England 1-0.

Mexico recently has made a big improvement and placed fourth in the CONCACAF GOLD CUP W tournament. Hosted by US media SOMOS LOCALES, The Mexico Womens team began its friendly matches April 6 in Orlando losing to Colombia and headed to the Alamo City.

San Antonio responded with nearly selling out Toyota Field which sits 8,200 and 9,200 standing room only. For a match played 7pm on a Tuesday 7,163 is amazing. This historically became the most attended Womens soccer match in San Antonio.

Fans trickled in to pack the stadium, this despite severe thunderstorm warnings and traffic. Fans were excited to witness womens futbol. A fan stated ” I’ve been waiting to see mi equipo since they beat USA 2-0 in the Gold Cup. This is my chance to see my team. For them to come to San Antonio is even better. Thank you to the city and Toyota Field for making this happen.”

Both Mexican Fans and Australian fans displayed their pride and love for the Womens National team. A mix of American born and Mexican born players representing their nation at Toyota Field in San Antonio, TX.

Mexican Manager Pedro Lopez said about about the crowd:

” It was electric. We want to play in big crowds like this. We thank the community who came to watch us play. We continue to compete and get better.”

Australian HC Tony Gustavsson praised the Mexican national team and stated that they presented a tough match for the Matildas. ” We pick our matches to have been be competitive. The crowd was electric and the team has something good going for them. They are on the right track.”
