About Us

A veteran owned and operated independent sports media company; Soy Antonio Futbol was born in 2017 with a passion to cover the beautiful game from the youth level to the internationals. We bring to you the best coverage of high school, college and the pros for both men and women’s soccer. Our goal is to bring the San Antonio Soccer community together and show the world the growing soccer culture in San Antonio.

Benji Mendoza – Owner/Operator

Benji is a veteran of the United States Navy, a corpsman with the Fleet Marine Force and made combat deployments to Afghanistan, Africa and CENTCOM. Benji’s passion for soccer began early, born in Nicaragua and coming to the US at an early age, growing up in the Rio Grande Valley. Benji played high school soccer at La Joya as a forward where he was a three year letterman. After high school Benji attended college at University of Western Florida in Pensacola where he played soccer in 2006 and 2007. Benji played for a Marine Corps inter-service traveling soccer team at Camp Lejeune.

Benji is currently attending UTSA for a B.A in Kinesiology with teaching certificate and a coach aid Comal ISD.

Miguel Padilla – Media/Communications

Miguel has also has a 20 plus year career in the military. After 10 years in the Navy, Miguel joined the Texas Army National Guard and has deployed to the Western Pacific, East Asia, Iraq and Egypt.

Miguel’s first experience with soccer was growing up in New Jersey watching the 1990 World Cup and his passion actually began with USA 94 attending a warm up match between Colombia v Greece and a group match between Saudi Arabia v Morocco both at Giants Stadium, went to the MLS debut of the NY/NJ Metrostars in 1996. Miguel was a goalkeeper in high school and played with the USS Charlotte soccer team in the Pearl Harbor intramural league. Miguel also played in an amateur league in Hawaii with SDV United.

Prior to joining Soy San Antonio Futbol, Miguel worked for FC Dallas as event staff during game day from 2016-2018 and was part of the organization during the 2016 US Open Cup championship win.
