SA Athenians: Hire New Head Coach for 2022

The San Antonio Athenians have released information on the hiring of a new Head Coach and announced the departure of former Head Coach Fabio Melo de Alcantara. The Athenians were United Women’s Soccer National Semi-Finalists in 2021, finishing with a regular season record of 9-1-0. The Athenians finished second in the Southwest Division behind Lone Star Republic. It was the first time a women’s team from Texas appeared in a National Semi-Final in UWS history.

Reinaldo Lima Sequeira was named as San Antonio Athenians on October 28th in a statement released on Athenians Social Media Accounts. Reinaldo is from Minas Gerais, Brazil and played in Mexico professionally for Club de Futbol Alacranes de Durango from 2005-2006. He went into coaching in 2008 with Durango for three season until 2011. Went on to coach at Cuidad Juarez, Tigres UNAL Reserves and Academy, Tuzos de la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (UAZ), and Nexaca Reserves and Academy. He was also the DA Director at Rio Grande Valley FC Toros Academy. Reinaldo’s recent assignment was right at Soccer Central, where he managed Soccer Central’s Elite Programs, NEXT and Athenians NEXT.

In a public release from Athenians, Coach Reinaldo said: “I am very happy to be part of this great project and for the opportunity to coach the Athenians. Last season showed the talent of the players and strength of the coaching staff. Thanks to the full support of the organization, I expect us to do an even greater job this coming season”
