SA Athenians draw 1-1 with conference leaders FC Austin Elite

(SAN ANTONIO) – The San Antonio Athenians were locked in a fierce, physical battle with FC Austin Elite on Saturday night as the UWS Southwest Conference’s top two teams went head-to-head early in the season. Emma Ruiz turned home a cross from debutant midfielder Brooke Martinez in the 51st minute and the home team had a flurry of chances to put the game out of reach before Austin fired back in the 85th minute from a corner with Katy Couperus scoring a header from close range. The Athenians are 1-1-1 and sit in second place in the young UWS season.
