San Antonio FC had a long injury list including missing both PC and Abu, but were able to get a 2-1 win over RGVFC Toros down in Edinburg, Texas. It was a rematch of the 2021 Western Conference Semi-Final and the first edition of the 2022 South Texas Derby.
It was a match that featured 8 yellow cards and 26 fouls overall between both clubs. It was a physical match which Toros owned possession 66% to 34% but it was the Alamo City Boys besting the Toros and getting three points on the road.
In the 12th minute RGVFC’s Frank Lopez made an attack and Cristian Bonilla was able to make the save and keep it 0-0. In the 34th minute, Justin Dhillion made a tackle in the final third and Connor Maloney was able to get possession of the ball outside the box and found Elliot Collier right on the penalty spot and Collier was able to find the back of the net from 12 yards out. Just a couple minutes before the half, Martinez curled it into the box and found Borczak who was able to redirected a the ball with a diving header to even the match. In the 45th minute, Loera was able to score the match winner, when RGFC keeper, Miller couldn’t scoop up the ball and Loera took advantage and was able to make the unassisted goal.

With the win, San Antonio FC is off to the best start in club history and is now 3-0-0 with 9 points and sit in second place in the USL Western Conference. Next match is at home. Saturday April 2nd, for San Antonio FC as they face a struggling Phoenix Rising FC who have just one win and two losses to start the season.
