The Final Word: SAFC playoff win, set to host Conference Semi-Final

San Antonio FC got their first playoff win since 2017 in a “Dos a Cero” win over San Diego Loyal at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night. Goals by Nathan Fogaca and Santiago Patino in the first half was all SAFC needed as they put pressure on the Loyal all night long. Jordan Farr who came in on emergency loan from Indy XI after Matt Cardone went down with a season ending injury recorded a clean sheet. The near sell out crowd 7,003 left home happy and with slight hopes the Alamo City Boys would host another playoff match next weekend. The San Antonio faithful had to wait until the late hours of Saturday night to find out who the next opponent would be.

San Antonio FC will continue their streak of home playoff matches this upcoming Saturday night at 8PM. The Alamo City Bys had to wait to see who they would face between the winner of RGVFC Toros and Phoenix Rising. Rio Grande Valley FC Toro came into the playoffs as the fourth seed and upset the defending Western Conference Champions Phoenix Rising. The match went in penalties where RGVFC came out on top.

This will be the the sixth time RGVFV Toros and San Antonio FC this year. The faced each other once in the preseason back in April, which ended in a 2-2 draw. They faced each other four times in the regular season, splitting the series with a 1-1-2 record and with a zero goal differential as both clubs scored five goals in those four regular season matches. Three are tied for the goal lead in the series as RGVFC’s Azocar and Sorto along with SAFC’s Nathan Fogaca have scored two goals each. 25 Yellow Cards and 1 Red Card have been issued to RGVFC and San Antonio FC in the series. There is no love lost between these two in the South Texas Derby.
