Athenians Recap: Last Home Match

The San Antonio Athenians played their last home match of the season this past Saturday. It was an important match to take all three points as the regular season enters the final weeks. The Athenians are looking to anchor a playoff spot. The Athenians took on Bat Country FC, which were winless coming into the contest.

The Athenians took control of the match early on with a goal by Hanson in the 6th minute assisted by Paityn Bretzer. Amanda Smith would score the first of two goals just three minutes later, with the assist from Hanson.

Bat Country FC would make it a game cutting the lead to 2-1 just before the half in the 45th minute on a half volley from Cristina Garriga.

Smith would score her second goal to secure the brace in the 61st minute with a shot from inside the box. Channing Borden would round out the scoring for the day with a close range shot in the box from a long pass in the 87th minute.

The Athenians move onto a 6-1-0 record with 18 points. They are tied with Lone Star Republic for first place but LSR own the tie breaker on the head to head and goal differential with a match in hand.
