The Athenians played two matches this past week, capped off with an international friendly with Club América Femenil.
Last Saturday, Athenians faced Side FC 92 from Tulsa in a important UWS regular season match, with Lone Star Republic still undefeated and climbing the table, the Athenians were looking getting all three points. Side FC 92 came in sitting in second place looking to get a foothold on top of the Southwest Conference.
San Antonio Athenians would fall behind early when Vanessa Fitch scored in the third minute on a turnover in the Athenians own box and a shot got past a diving Mia Wildeman. Athenians would draw it even just a minute later when Brooke Hanson scored on a low shot.
In the 21st minute, Amanda Smith would give the Athenians the lead with a goal from 20 yards out. It was all the Athenians needed as the defense kept Side FC 92 from threatening to score in the second half.

Friendly Verus Club América at Blossoms
The San Antonio Athenians faced Club América Femenil in an International Friendly on Wednesday evening at Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio. It was great turnout with over 1,000 in attendance.
The Athenians faced a tough opponent and Club América came out on top 2-0 with goals coming from Moni Rodriguez in the 6th minute and a second half penalty by Janelly Farias.
Athenians keeper Mia Wildeman was Player of the Match recording 17 saves.
Preview versus Bat Country
Saturday night will be the final regular season home game for the Athenians, San Antonio (5-1-0, 15 PTS) will face Bat Country FC (0-3-1, 1 PT). Bat Country will be looking for their first win of the UWS season and Athenians will be looking to keep pace with Lone Star Republic who is undefeated.
