SAFC Offseason Report #4: Adding an Attack

We have seen more moves by San Antonio FC as 2020 came to an end and 2021 kicked off. Some familiar faces return and a new face with MLS experience is in to bolster the attack.

Recent Signings

Fear. The. Beard. Matt Cardone returns for season number six with the Alamo City Boys and is the only remaining original member of the 2016 inaugural team. Cardone had his best season last year and is looking to improve. Cardone will be 28 in June and is usually when Goalkeepers start their prime, so look for Cardone to reach another level of maturity and skill.

Victor “PC” Giro is back for his second year at SAFC. Was pivotal in the midfield; playing almost as a lone defensive midfielder. An important return for stability in the midfield and the ability to assist the defense. Lead the team with 28 tackles won and tied for second in interceptions with 25. Fun fact about PC, he played at Orlando City from 2017 to 2018 and was traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps for the third pick in the first round of the 2019 MLS Superdraft. The pick for Orlando?

With the Third pick in the 2019 MLS Superdraft Orlando City selects…. Sanitago Patino. The Colombian played for Orlando for two seasons with 13 appearances and scored 2 goals. As a striker at FIU, he scored 37 goals. Still needs to develop but has a good ceiling to progress and have a successful season at SAFC.

No Fate but what we make…. Connor Maloney is back to terminate the oppositions chances of scoring. When Connor is out on the pitch. He can’t be bargained with. He can’t be reasoned with. He doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until you have lost.

Still Likely to return…..

Zachary Herivaux, Josh Yaro, Ethan Bryant, Hunter Gorskie, Fabrizio Bernal and Joshua Ramsey

Very Slim Chance of Returning

Nacho Bailone, Gonzalo Di Renzo

Immediate Needs for the Club

Another big body centerback, prolific scoring striker

Speculation:

SAFC could be adding another player with MLS experience from a west MLS club soon, possible midfielder. Once SAFC sign the players that are likely to return and complete the core roster, look for SAFC to get two to three loans coming in.
