SAFC Offseason report #3: Possible Moves

San Antonio FC begins the new year with some roster spots to fill. They seemed to be focused on the midfield first with their December signings. Only Liam Doyle is officially back on the defense, and the Goalkeepers are set, SAFC could bring on a third GK for the practice squad at a later date.

It still seems likely that Joshua Yaro, Hunter Gorskie and Connor Maloney will be back in 2021. There’s a slim chance for the return of Nacho Bailone and Gonzalo DiRenzo could come back on loan again from Lanus.

Here’s a look at some American based players that could be on San Antonio FC’s radar to add some fire power to the 2021 roster.

Strikers

Michael Salazar – option with Houston Dynamo

Name may sound familiar, played 24 matches with RGV Toros and scored 10 goals. Also spent two seasons with the Houston Dynamo with 8 appearances. Potential starter.

Joris Ahlinvi – out of contract with New Mexico United

The Frenchman played six matches with New Mexico United and scored two goals. Was on the roster for the playoff match with SAFC but did not make an appearance. Is 25 years old and could add depth to the bench.

Midfielders

Emil Cuello – LA Galaxy

Emil could continue the tradition of Argentine born players on the SAFC roster. Is an attacking midfielder that would fit nicely in Alen Marcina game plan. It would be a return to Texas as Emil played at SMU in Dallas.

Devon “Speedy” Williams – out of contract with Louisville City

The Jamaican has spent the last three seasons at with Louisville City, 91 appearances and 7 goals. The 28 year old could add some leadership and championship experience as he been to the USL finals three times, lifting the cup twice.

Defenders

Preston Kilwien – option declined NY Red Bulls II

The defender has a good size for the physicality of the USL. At 6’4″, he would be a tower with Liam Doyle at possible Centre Back. Preston was born in Lubbock but is Costa Rican and played two seasons with Red Bulls II with 36 appearances.

AJ DeLaGarza – out of contract with Inter Miami

Seems like a long shot but would add years of MLS experience to the roster. Is familiar with Texas as he played three seasons with the Houston Dynamo and did a small loan stint with the RGV Toros.
