Girls Soccer Sim Tournament Round of 16 results

The Soy SAF sim tournament started with the first round for the top 16 high school girl soccer teams from districts 26-6A, 27-6A and 28-6A. The top four seeds coming in are: 1. SA Madison (20-1-0) 2. New Braunfels Canyon (15-1-4) 3. SA Clark (15-3-3) and 4. SA LEE (16-3-4). There were a few great first round matches with rivals and derbies set with possible upsets in some.

16. SA MacArthur (8-11-2) v 1. SA Madison ( 20-1-0)

First round and first game was a inter-district match between MacArthur and Madison. Both teams met in the regular season with Madison taking both 4-0 and 5-0. MacArthur was hoping for an upset and kept Madison scoreless for the first 25 minutes. Madison won 3-0 with a brace from Jillian Martinez and Olivia Wildeman added a late one to seal the deal for Madison as they move on to the quarterfinals

Final: SA MacArthur 0 – SA Madison 3

9. SA O’Connor (11-5-5) v 8. SA Johnson (12-8-2)

Did not meet in the 2020 regular season. Both teams were evenly matched both teams goals against is under 30 with very good defenses at the helm to their success. Much of the match was a midfield battle and neither defense gave up much in terms of shots on goal. Johnson broke the scoreless match with a goal in the 71st minute with Khori Banks scoring the lone goal of the match with a soft closer on a break away.

Final: SA O’Connor 0 – SA Johnson 1

13. SA Reagan (14-7-1) v 4. LEE (16-3-4)

Both teams met in district 27-6A play twice this season with LEE winning both by one goal (2-1 and 1-0). Reagan looking to upset as the 13th seed over a district rival. Reagan scored first when Freshman Brooke Castillo scored on a header from a corner in the 11th minute, LEE made it even on a goal from Kameron Kloza from 20 yards out in the 20th minute. Reagan took the lead again on a penalty that resulted on a yellow card for LEE. Taylor Jernigan was able to find the top right corner on the penalty. LEE tied it up again in the 47th minute on a goal by Jenevieve Jackson. LEE took the lead in the 52nd minute with a goal by Isabella Poyo and LEE put the game away late with a goal from Kyleena Xin.

Final: Reagan 2 – LEE 4

12. SA Churchill (10-9-2) v SA Brandeis (15-3-3)

Teams did not meet each other in 2020. Mia Salas had a breakout performance with a hat trick and Ashlyn Zingelmann added two goals. Churchill did find one late goal as a consolation by Callie Brame.

Final: Churchill 1 – Brandeis 5

15. Schertz Clemens (8-8-4) v 2. New Braunfels Canyon (15-1-4)

Both teams met each other twice in district play with Canyon winning one 1-0 and the second match ending in a 1-1 draw. This one was a close match as well as both teams scored once in regulation, Clemens scored first with Ashlyn Suarez finding the back of the net in the first half. Canyon knotted things up in the second half when Bianca Ruiz scored on a free kick. Match went to overtime with no one finding the winner, having the match go to penalties to decide the winner. Canyon came out on top 4-2 on PKs.

Final: Schertz Clemens 1 (2) – New Braunfels Canyon 1 (4) on PKs

10 SA Brennan (16-3-5) v 7. Smithson Valley (13-7-1)

Did not meet in the 2020 regular season. A possible match where there could be an upset. Neither team would go out the tournament easy. Smithson Valley scored first in the 8th minute on a goal by Sabrina Taber. Brennan tied it up just before the half, Kaila Halpin. The game winner happened in overtime when Jewel Mann hit one off the right post and into the back of the net.

Final: Brennan 1 – Smithson Valley 2 (OT)

14. SA Taft (11-8-2) v 3. SA Clark (15-3-3)

Another inter-district match up in the first round. SA Clark won both meetings in the regular season 3-1 and 5-3. While Taft looked to upset, this one was all SA Clark, scoring three goals all in the first half with goals by Emily Hight, Ana Bonilla and Andrea Santos.

Final: Taft 0 – Clark 3

11. Cibolo Steele (14-6-2) v 6. New Braunfels (14-4-2)

The last match of the day and a 26-6A match up between two good teams. New Braunfels swept the regular season with two wins over Cibolo Steele with a 3-1 and 1-0 wins. This one was the second match of the day to go to penalties after going 0-0 through over time. Dana Hanson put away the PK winner as the Unicorns advance.

All top eight teams advance in the first round, setting up some really good matches in the quarterfinals.
