College Soccer Corner #2 – St. Mary’s Upset Over Ranked Team; Trinity Struggles Early

Women’s Soccer

NCAA Division I

UTSA – current record 3-2-0

The Roadrunners split their two matches over the weekend in the UTSA Tournament. On Friday evening, UTSA won 3-0 over Cleveland State with goals from Ellis Patterson, Isa Hernandez and Lexi Bolton. The Sunday afternoon match was versus South Florida and the Bulls coming out on top 5-0. South Florida’s Aubrey Megrath scored a brace.

UIW – current record 1-4-0

UIW played two at home over the weekend and got their first win of the season. The Cardinals won 3-0 over Prairie View A&M with two goals from Keeley Ayala and the third from Brooke Hanson. On Sunday, UNT came into town to face UIW, North Texas won 3-0 with two goals from Berklee Peters. UIW travels to California for a pair of weekend matches.

NCAA Division II

St. Mary’s University – current record 0-2-0

The Rattlers were in Colorado for two matches, first on Thursday facing Colorado Christian losing 3-2, Serena Frank scored on a penalty and Olivia Bachelet added another for St. Mary’s. On Saturday, St. Mary’s traveled to Denver in a match up with Metro State. Jessica Mooney scored two for Metro State, winning over St. Mary’s 3-0.

NCAA Division III

Trinity University – current record 3-0-0

The Tigers had one match over the weekend and it was a big one. #17 ranked Trinity beat #10 ranked Hardin-Simmons 3-1. Two goals from Krisiten Canepa and Kaity Ward added one more to cement Trinity’s victory.

NAIA

Our Lady of the Lake – current record 1-1-1

The Saints scored early in this one with a goal from Sarah Miles in the 4th minute. Wayland Baptist had to come back from behind to win 2-1 with goals from Fortune Kede in the 29th and 42nd minutes.

Men’s Soccer

NCAA Division I

UIW Cardinals – current record 2-1-0

Cardinals went to Arkansas for their third straight road match. They faced Central Arkansas over the weekend. Miguel Velasquez scored first but it was Central Arkansas that came out on top 2-1.

NCAA Division II

St. Mary’s U – current record 2-0-0

The Rattlers played two at home over the weekend and won both. a pair of 3-1 wins over Metro State and Colorado School of Mines. Luis Sanchez scored two and Ollie Wright scored in the win over Metro State. In the upset win over 16th ranked Colorado School of Mines, Jesus Valenzuela, Ollie Wright and Deni Cresto all scored.

NCAA Division III

Trinity University – current record 1-2-1

In 2018 Trinity lost two matches all year, 2019 has started with two defeats in the first 4 matches. The Tigers were swept over the weekend, losing to Claremont and Hardin-Simmons in Richardson, losing to both 3-1. Duncan James scored in the 83rd minute in the Claremont match and Armann Islam scored in the Hardin-Simmons match.

NAIA

Our Lady of the Lake – current record 3-2-1

The Saints played to nil-nil draw on Monday afternoon with Wayland Baptist. Goalkeeper Keelin Garrity recorded 10 saves in the clean sheet draw.
