The UPSL fall season has started in the Central Conference, Heart Division. Three San Antonio clubs will be representing the city in the UPSL; San Antonio Runners who are defending Heart Division Champions, a good Corinthians club and newcomers Alamo City SC.
Pair of matches were scheduled this past weekend, Alamo City SC was going to make its debut versus Capital City but match was cancelled. Alamo City SC, posted a statement on social media and will have to wait to next Saturday to make their debut against Coyotes FC at the Alamo SportsPlex.
The Corinthians and Runners faced off in an inter city derby to start off the season. It was a seven goal slugfest and an exciting match . Corinthians scored first on a golazo by Lalo Escareno in the 9th minute. The Runners’ Erick Garza scored the equalizer in the 14th minute and Mikey Maldonado took charge of the match giving the Runners the lead and some cushion with two goals midway through the match in the 43rd and 56th minutes.
Julio Gamboa scored in the 58th minute to pull the Corinthians within one. The match remained a tight 3-2 affair until the 77th minute, John Mendoza added a goal to make it 4-2. The night was capped off in the 91st minute when Mendoza added his second goal of the night. Man of match was Mikey Maldonado with two goals and two assists on the night.
