Preview of this weekend’s schedule of matches for San Antonio local universities.
Women’s Soccer
UTSA (1-0-0) v Texas State (2-0-0) – AUG 30 at 7 PM
The Roadrunners have their home opener this weekend vs a central Texas rival in the Texas State Bobcats. UTSA opened the regular season in the Cardinal Classic at Beaumont. UTSA won their first match 3-0 with goals from Kaiteann Lochte and Lexi Bolton, an own goal secured the 3-0 win. The second match ended in suspension at 1-1 versus Oklahoma State due to severe weather.
Both teams faced each other last year in San Marcos, UTSA lost 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by Kaylee Davis in the 88th minute. UTSA out shot their opponents in last year’s match 16-8. The Bobcats have started the season with two wins and will be a good early test for the Roadrunners.

UIW (0-1-0) at University of Houston (1-1-0) – AUG 30 at 7 PM
The women Cardinals travel to Brays Bayou to face UH in their second regular season match. UIW is coming off a tight match with Texas State and came short with a 1-0 defeat. The Cougars are coming off a 3-0 loss to Rice.
Both teams met early last season and Houston won 2-0 in San Antonio, with goals by Olivia Lee and Jazmin Grant. UIW is looking to improve on last season’s record; beating Houston early will boost confidence and lift a lot of pressure off Coach Emma Wright-Cates and the Cardinals.
#18 Trinity (0-0-0) v East Texas Baptist (0-0-0) – Aug 30 at 5 PM
SCAC Champions, Trinity are on a mission. They open the season at home versus East Texas Baptist, who finished the 2018 season 8-8-1. This match is the season opener for both teams and they wrapped up the preseason last weekend.
Trinity only lost once in the 2018 regular season and will be looking to get past the second round of the NCAA tournament where they were ousted last year by Hardin-Simmons.
St. Mary’s University v Lions FC (Exhibition) – Aug 31 at 11 AM
The Lady Rattlers are still in preseason mode as the face Lions FC at home. Lions FC is a soccer academy based in Schertz. St. Mary’s finished last season 6-9-2 and was lead by Alexia Maldonado with six goals and five assists. The regular season for St. Mary’s season begins September 5th at Colorado Christian.
OLLU v Oklahoma City University – Sept 2 at 12 PM
OLLU is coming off a nil-nil draw with Schreiner University on Aug 26th. Last year OLLU defeated OKC University 5-2 and finished with a 12-5-1 record. They made it to the semi-final of the semi-finals of the RRAC tournament getting downed 1-0 to Louisiana State University – Shreveport.
Men’s
UIW (0-0-0) at UMBC (0-0-0) – Aug 30 at 7 PM

Incarnate Word’s men’s team travel to the east coast to face University of Maryland – Baltimore County. It’ll be the first match of the season for both teams. It’ll be an early difficult test for the Cardinals, the UMBC Retrievers were 10-6-4 in 2018.
UIW wrapped the preseason in a exhibition cup match with Trinity. UIW showed improvement from last season and played tough. With additional of San Antonio native Miguel Velasquez from Tulsa, UIW should win a few more matches this season.
#9 Trinity (0-0-0) v UT Dallas (0-0-0) – Aug 30 at 8 PM

Trinity opens the 2019 campaign at home with a match vs UT Dallas Comets. Last season match in San Antonio was cancelled. Trinity holds a 6-1-2 record against UT- Dallas since 2009, the last victory for UT-Dallas versus Trinity was in 2014. UT-Dallas is coming of a 13-3-2 record have been traditionally good over the past few years.
Last season Trinity finished with a 17-2-3 record and made it to the NCAA third round before being eliminated by Chicago.
St. Mary’s at Our Lady of the Lake (Exhibition) – Aug 31 at 6 PM
The Rattlers are playing their final preseason match this weekend versus OLLU. Rattlers, in 2018, was 10-5-3 and played one postseason match in the Heartland Conference Tournament losing to #6 Lubbock Christian 2-1.
OLLU vs Oklahoma City University – Sep 2 at 2:30 PM
OLLU will play OKC after facing the Rattlers, OLLU won last year’s match up with OKC University 3-1.
