An epic 6A boys State Final took place in Georgetown, a match that went to penalties. LEE and Lewisville Flower Mound contested to a 0-0 draw after 100 minutes of play and Flower Mound won it’s first state title on penalties 4-1.

LEE and Flower Mound were evenly and very well matched. Both defenses played outstanding and limited each team to only 9 total shots. First real chance came in the 7th minute when Flower Mound’s Shane Popieluch hit the post on a header. LEE’s best chance in the first came on a shot by Wilmar Aguilar which was saved by Landon Leach in the 29th minute.
Second half was more of the same as both teams were able to shut down each other’s attack. Wilmar Aguilar appeared to go down with a leg injury and was subbed in the 43rd minute. Aguilar attempted to came back in a few minutes later but was unable to finish the match. LEE had two attempts in the half but unable to score. Overtime ended scoreless with each team only getting 2 shots.
Flower Mound won on penalties 4-1 with Flower Mound’s Brock Clayton securing the victory.
BY THE NUMBERS: Both LEE and Flower Mound finished even in shots (9); Corners (7); Saves (3). Flower Mound was booked 6 times; 5 yellows and 1 red; LEE was booked for 3 yellows. LEE’s Francisco Segura led the Volunteers in shots with 3.
LEE had a very successful run in the tournament and finished the season 26-3-1, District Champion, Regional Champion and State runner up.
