LEE Volunteers reach the UIL Boys Soccer State Final for the first time since 1997. A 3-1 victory over Woodlands College Park secured LEE with a spot in the final. LEE will face Lewisville Flower Mound on Saturday at Birkelbach Field.
Woodlands College Park struck first early in the first half, 2:09 into the match, when Axel Hevener Arano forced a turnover on the back line and put one past LEE’s Keeper Joseph Batrouni on the far post. LEE’s rare error did not rattle the Volunteers and Wilmar Aquilar, in the 8th minute, put one near post past the keeper; assist came on a pass from the left side from Henry Bowland. In the 22nd minute LEE scored again when Aguilar assisted Francisco Segura’s one timer. LEE carried the 2-1 lead into the half.
Second half was all LEE. The Volunteers out shot Woodlands College Park 9-5 and dominated possession. Jose Cortes scored from six yards out and Aguilar recorded his 2nd assist of the night, goal came in the 58th minute. LEE’s defense was able to keep Woodlands College Park from scoring again, including some timely tackles from Theo Gunter.
