San Antonio FC turn the lights out on Las Vegas

San Antonio FC earn their first win of the 2019 USL Championship season with a 2-1 victory over Las Vegas Lights FC in front of 6,067.

SAFC struck early in the 16th minute when Bradford Jamieson IV came down the right side, beat Las Vegas Center back Javan Torre to the ball and nicely rolled it past keeper Thomas Olsen from about 6 yards out.

The match got a little chippy towards the end the first half as 3 yellow cards were issued in a span of 2 minutes. Six yellows were issued in the match, three for each club. SAFC went into the break with a one-nil lead.

San Antonio’s midfielder Leeroy Maguraushe landed awkwardly on an uncontested ball he attempted to control and went down with an apparent knee injury in the 56th minute. It appears to be serious as Maguraushe was carried off on a stretcher, current status of his injury is unknown at time of this article being published.

Ever “Cheno” Guzman secured the victory in the 83rd minute when Jack Barmby’s pass sliced between two defenders down the middle of the pitch and connected with Cheno, who put it in the back of the net. It’s Cheno’s second goal of the 2019 season and was able to celebrate it with his daughter who was visiting from Mexico.

Las Vegas Lights scored their lone goal of the night in the dying seconds of the match on a hand ball by Johnny Fenwick inside the box which lead to a penalty. Fenwick was a bit unlucky as he attempted to clear the ball with his foot it took an angle and made contact with his left arm.

Up next: San Antonio (1-3-1, 4 pts) face the Los Angeles Galaxy II (3-2-0, 9 pts) at home next weekend April 13th at 7:30 PM. LA is coming off a huge 4-2 victory over first place Tulsa Roughnecks.
