San Antonio’s very own Central Catholic High School boy’s soccer team are back to back to back TAPPS D1 State Champions. The soccer powerhouse won 4-0 over Bishop Lynch (Dallas) on Friday afternoon (02.22.19). Senior Angel Bacho recorded a goal and an assist in the final and finished the season with 7 goals and 19 assists. Other scorers were Seniors Luis Jaen, Franco Querido and Junior Jose Gallegos.
The state final was played on a chilly, rainy afternoon in Waco at the WACO ISD stadium and according to Central Catholic’s twitter a bus full of students and a caravan of fans made the trip to support the Buttons.
Central Catholic dominated in the postseason with a 8-0 win over Beaumont Kelly in the Bi-District, 9-1 win over Houston Awty in the Regional, one tightly contested 2-1 win over Houston St. Thomas in the State semi-final, finishing off with a 4-0 victory over Bishop Lynch (Dallas) and plus 21 goal differential to claim it’s third TAPPS D1 State Championship in a row.
Head Coach Edward Cartee lead the Buttons to a overall record of 15-4-1, District record of 5-1. Central Catholic finished rank 1st in the state and 25th nationally.
