The San Antonio Athenians Soccer Club held tryouts at Cornerstone Christian Schools’ Warrior Stadium on Saturday February 9th in San Antonio. The Athenians are preparing for their inaugural season in the United Women’s Soccer League, the league kicks off in May.
Twenty eight trialists braved 5 hours in the cold and rain spending time registering, warming up, conducting rondos, GK drills, various offensive and defensive drills, finalizing with some 7v7 and 11v11 play.
Some notable footballers that went to try out were Michelle Hogan, Allison Fahey, Jessica Bell, and Kelly Lochte who played with the Athenians in 2017. Another notable was from Brennan High School, Junior Leslie Rios who also has experience with the Athenians.
SA Athenians are in the hiring process for a Head Coach and are looking at some local candidates. An announcement on the hire will be made in the coming days. The SA Athenians will also announce the preseason schedule soon which will include friendlies with some high profile clubs.
